This post isn’t directly motivated by a particular new stories at the moment, it’s more the general direction of this government.
I feel like Labour need to be more Labour.
Trying to cut things is a very Tory motivated view of how to get out of a mess – but look how it’s got us.
This country is broken. Look beyond the headline figures. Look at the high streets, look at public services, look around. I would never talk this country down. It is the greatest country in the world, but this country is broken.
Now is a time to be spending money on the things that will get this country going.
Not turn backs on people, but help people.
Infrastructure projects across the country to get the economy moving. Spend and then benefit from the increase in economic growth and tax revenue.
Spend on public services. The Private sector and Public sector are very much intertwined with each other. One being strong, allows the other to be strong. We need a strong education sector, we need a strong NHS.
Yes we do need to control immigration, but look at the benefits. People want to come here to better their lives. That dream for people is not over. They can come over and fill in the vacancies where we don’t have the labour for. Helping to get the country moving and more tax revenue.
People voted for change, not just to get the Tories out but for the real hope that Labour was going for.
I do think that there are lots of things that this government have done well, it’s unfortunate that there are many things they’ve done wrong and that’s where the headlines are.
This Labour government needs to be bold.
I heard the quotes from a few weeks ago that “politicians now wouldn’t create the NHS” – I think that is becoming the case unfortunately.
Our country has taken a hit, whether it be Brexit, Covid, previous government decisions or international shocks. It is now time to put that all behind, get on with it and spend to get things going.
