An incredible by-election win took place last night. The Green Party won their first by-election and the new Gorton and Denton MP, Hannah Spencer, is the Greens first ever MP in the north of England.
The Greens got 40.7% of vote, up 28% from the 2024 general election. Reform came in second with 28.7%, up 15%. Labour, in it’s tradition stronghold, came third with 25.4% – down 25%.
A very good win for the Greens, a horrendous night for Labour.
Starmer to go? If not now, then when?

I hope the Labour leadership are having a good talk to themselves and review of what’s happened – not just specifically to this by-election but also overall.
Was it really worth blocking Andy Burnham from standing?
Will the government accept something isn’t working?
They talk about how great they are doing, and don’t get me wrong, I can see that. But it’s not cutting through. People are still looking around and thinking “what’s changed, why has my life not changed” – and in some respects its got worse.
I’ve said this before, whilst I’m annoyed at the direction of this government and the lack of ambition and decisions. But I look around and I don’t see an alternative just yet.
I want this government to change. I want the government to listen. They need to listen.
As some Labour MPs have said today – Labour need to be Labour.
For instance, the freezing of thresholds on student loans. Something the Tories would do, but Labour has done it.
We don’t want Tories with a Red Rosette on.
We want that Labour party that want change.
We want that Labour party that helps with the ambition of this country, that gives that safer and brighter future.
We want that Labour party to get us out of the mess that we’ve been in since 2008.
We want our country to grow. We want our high streets to be buzzing.
We need change. We need hope.
Labour can do that. It’s got a massive majority.
It is time for the Prime Minister to stand down and make way.
The time is up.
