Fresh Report

Change is Needed

After seeing the protests in London on Sunday, being in my local city centre and talking to family and friends, I have never felt more passion about the future of this country.

There is so much ambition out there.

Yes some of the motives of the protestors are questionable, but for the vast majority they care about the country – not in a violent way or a horrible way. But they want to be able to get on. I just want to be clear, a march organised by Tommy Robinson is one that will draw the nastier side of the public – the arrests at the march show that.

With this ambition and the view of the country, unfortunately it does feel like that ambition stops at the government and politicans.

I’m sure that’s not true for all of them and they do have ambition for this country, it just feels like it’s very slow. We are better than this, we need to be better than this. There has to be more and faster policies that will get this country going.

Up and down the nation – High Streets, Public Services and even the private sector is calling out for something. We need change.

The thing that the Labour Party ran on at the last general election.

The way in which the Labour Party got it’s majority was because the country wanted change.

That change may not have been in the form of the Labour Party, but they wanted change. Conservative voters predominately stayed at home, that allowed Labour to win seats and get the majority. People were sick and tired.

Today we see Conservative MP Danny Kruger defect to Reform UK. Is Reform just becoming the Conservative party that the country wanted change from?

I feel like that only way forward is for politicians to properly work together for the greater good. The Tories messed this country up, Labour are going about fixing it slowly and Reform are on the rise. The Lib Dems are also in a very strong position. That’s 4 parties across the UK – along with the minor parties, that have interests up and down the nation. The nation is calling out for politicians to do something.

My vision would start by decentralising the government. Accelerate powers out of the regions, whether it’s the use of Mayors, giving councils more powers or creating regional assemblies. Decisions need to be made locally, they understand the needs of people the best.

Whether that’s housing, public services and infrastructure, the more local power is given the better the decisions are for those people.

We need a national overhaul.

It feels like money is being spent in the wrong areas – areas which are the poorest and least developed continue to lose out to investmnet from the government. Investment that is needed to generate private investment. The SouthWest is one of those areas and is always forgotten about for example.

This will take time, but we need to drive this change together.

There are too many problems across the country. But we know how to sort it.

A new dawn is needed in the UK.
